My road trip didn't have the best of starts, as I had my purse stolen which contained my money, cards and documentation. And I had only been in Madrid for half an hour! As you can imagine, I was on the brink of cancelling all my plans and returning home. Luckily, I have some amazing friends and family, who managed to calm me down, told me to breathe and advised I should sleep on it.
Once I managed to get myself to my hotel, I was drained, upset and didn't really want to venture out, but after another conversation with a close friend, I decided to shake it off and head out (as originally planned) to the guitar clinic which Jared James Nichols was giving at a local guitar shop, Madrid Musical Malaga8.
Man, I am glad I did as it was a very interesting experience - even for a non - guitarist like myself. This was a first time for me, I didn't know what to expect, and I am guessing every guitar clinic is different and individual in their own way.
Jared started off by playing some songs that included his new single, "Threw Me To The Wolves" which was quite the exclusive as it hadn't even been released at the point in time. What can I say?, other than....Wow, such a amazing song, He never disappoints, and it is definitely another solid track to add to his ever growing catalogue.
He went on to talk about his signature Les Paul, Old Glory, his signature amp and we even had a question and answer session, which was fantastic. We were lucky to hear a few stories from the road, like the time he was at Tierra del Rock, and the amp they had provided blew up right before he was about to start the show, and how there were flames everywhere!
Finally, one thing that really stood out to me, and struck a chord was something Jared said
"Things will always got wrong, be cool, don't panic and don't be nervous."
Overall it was a fantastic experience, and I highly recommend anyone who has the chance to attend a clinic, do it. even if you're not a guitar player. It is insightful, and you really see how the musicians tick, and how they work.
Side note: I just want to thank Jared (And Phil) for looking after for me, and for his true kindness. You know I didn't tell you about what happened to me for a free pass. You know you didn't have to do that for me, but thank you again, and I just want to thank you for listening too. It meant a lot.
