Living life in the fast lane, traveling here and there non-stop, while leaving little to less time for anything else, that is me in a nutshell….so I do apologise for not giving you my second column sooner.
Better late than never, right?!
Anyway, that is enough of that, so lets get down to the reason I grace your computer screens on a regular basis. In my first column I gave you four recommendations of Spanish bands who deserve to be heard, and people to speak their names. This article is going to be a continuation from that objective, and I am going to talk about a new handful of bands who have made that all important impact on my musical fibres or also known as my spidey senses haha.
(In no particular order)
Playa Cuberris
I hadn’t heard of Playa Cuberris until they played at Pachamama Rock this past Summer, and since that moment they have been one of my go to bands in my playlist.
The band hail from Madrid and Cantabria, they are classed as “Rock Playa,” and the best way to describe this is, the sounds of summer mixed with rock, and a little a hint of mystery for good measure. They do sing in Spanish, but don’t let that scare you because you will still be able to connect to their music, and really feel its purpose.
The group already have 2 albums, Bienvenidos a Nungun Lugar (2013) and Entrar a Matar (2017), under their belts, with a third titled Gigantes, on its way in 2020. They will be presenting their new album at Sala Mon in Madrid on the 15th February, and I feel this is going to be a special night for old and new fans alike.
They are a very talented band, full of passion and their name will definitely be in luces de neon before we know it!
KITAI
This group is represented by the same label (Entrebotones) as Playa Cuberris, so it is quite fitting to talk about them at the same time, and quite frankly, KITAI have made a huge impact on me in such a short space of time.
It was a very similar scenario to the latter, where they played Pachamama Rock but a year previous, and I was blown away, and have been hooked ever since. I am actually heading to see the band play at Sala Madchester in Almeria this Friday (29th November).
The group hail from Madrid, Samara (URSS) and Tenerife. They come under the rock/metal umbrella, and they are pretty much was the label says, but with a unique spicy twist. to be honest, I haven’t heard music this original and extraordinary in a very long time. They sing in Spanish, but as I mentioned in the latter, don’t let this scare you because you feel a deep connection with their music, musicianship and originality.
KITAI already have 4 EPs, Origin (2013), Viral (2014), Llegan (2017), Fahrenheit (2018), and 2 albums, Que Vienen (2015) and Piromanos (2017), under their belts, with an abundance of singles to boot.
This band can do no wrong, they are high energy, talented and they definitely bring the fuego en la radio!
Both bands are on music streaming platforms for your listening pleasure, and there isn’t really much left to say, other than go and give them a listen and most importantly, ENJOY!
